SOLITAIRE GUIDE

How to Play Solitaire

Classic Klondike Solitaire uses a standard 52-card deck. Your goal is to move every card to four foundation piles, building each suit from Ace to King.

Setup

Deal seven tableau columns. The first column has one card, the second has two, and so on until the seventh has seven. Only the top card of each column is face up. The remaining cards form the stock.

Legal tableau moves

Build tableau sequences downward by alternating red and black suits. A Queen can be placed on a King, a black 8 can be placed on a red 9, and so on. Only a King can start an empty tableau column.

Foundation rules

Start each foundation with an Ace. Continue with the 2, 3, 4 and so forth of the same suit until the King is placed.

How to win

You win when all 52 cards are in the four foundations. Good play usually means revealing hidden cards, preserving useful tableau options and managing the stock carefully.
